How cool are these pyramids?! I was having people ask me on insta if these were real & the answer is yes! Chichen Itza is the most visited & well known Mayan Pyramid in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Chichen Itza is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is about two hours from the larger cities of both Merida & Cancun if you are staying there, also it is less than an hour away from Valladolid.
If you plan on going to Chichen Itza it is pretty inexpensive to visit. The admission fee is 188 pesos which is about 10 US dollars per adult & free for kids under 12. I recommend going there independently instead of a tour. If you choose to go independently you can download the guide on your phone off the internet with the freedom of going at your own pace & saving yourself time & money.
We woke up at 6 am to see these beautiful pyramids & got there around 9 o’clock & it was already so packed! The earlier you get there the less people in my opinion. There is people on tours more towards the afternoon & it gets much more packed later in the day. I wasn’t’ excepting how many vendors there were trying to sell products as your walking up to the pyramids. I feel that since we got there early we were able to enjoy a more peaceful & relaxed atmosphere. I was saying I wish we brought sandwiches because I would have definitely had a picnic. Haha
The pyramids looked like artificial blocks! The people of the land restored them so well that they looked so perfect. On the way out we bought a few souvenirs. We saw a man carving a suede piece by hand & seriously this man was so talented that we had to get it & bring it home. We were so blown away by his talent that we gave him extra! I love supporting local artists! We also got a plack that was hand carved & colored into meaningful symbolizations of the Mayans to hang up in our home. I love collecting things from places, signing it, & seeing it on the wall of our home. One day Darius can have them all in his home & hopefully do that tradition with his family!
My son might not remember crawling on the fields in the middle of Mayan Pyramids or dancing with his momma in front of the famous El Castillo structure but we have pictures & memories that will last forever. Chichen Itza was such a magnificent site to see & is definitely a must-visit when traveling through the Yucatan. Join us next with riding camels on the beach & ATV riding!
