Cenote Ik Kil

Visiting the Yucatan Peninsula has been on my bucket list for some time now. We knew we were going to be staying in Cancun, so we decided to rent a car to venture off over the weekend. We had such a blast & I am so glad that we rented a car because last time I was in Cancun I took a shuttle everywhere!

The night before Cenote Ik Kil, I packed up the car with extra clothes, camera equipment, snacks, & water so we could leave early in the morning & have everything prepared for our two hour drive. I am so glad I did because we woke up at 6am, ate some breakfast & everything went so smooth & was really the perfect morning.

We had 2 other cenotes we were planning on seeing this day but we ended up driving an hour past our exit then drove an hour past it on the way back! lol We were just enjoying good conversation & talking that we couldn’t stop laughing when we found out we did it twice, but it happeded! ha

We had finally got to the Cenote (natural well) & I am so glad we went to this particular Cenote. Cenote Ik Kil is the most famous sinkhole in the world. Cenote Ik Kil was considered sacred to the Mayans. This clear blue water was used by Mayan royalty, used for both relaxation & ritual sacrifices. I thought that was so cool! I love history & learning about the cultures, purpose, & reason behind different people.

If you are planning on visiting this Cenote what I did was buy a ($30 USD) ticket to visit Cenote Ik Kil & Chichen Itza along with the full Valladolid “tour”. The ticket also included free parking at both locations which was so convenient! Cenote Ik Kil & Chichen Itza are only 15 minutes from each if you want to visit both. We went to Chichen Itza first so we didn’t have to walk around soaked after the Cenote!

Visiting here was a dream. I am so grateful to have had my son Darius with me. I really don’t remember what life was like before him! Sometimes I sit there shocked at the fact he is already 8 months old & holding his own food, eating biscuits in his high chair! To travel with him & build memories is what makes my soul happy. I have so many photos from Mexico that I am so excited to share with you! Friday lets talk Chichen Itza. Stay tuned! 😉
